Bad news for all adventurers
First of all the „wild“ camping along the trail is offically not allowed by law. This applies for the whole forest area and includes the small wooden huts. First I thought that this permission belongs only to the Harz National Park but that’s not right.
Camping sites and youth hostels
Along the track are several camping sites and youth hostels. This is the only way to save money at the Harzer Hexenstieg. Sometimes you have to go more than 3km to reach the places but you can be sure that it’s legal.
Supply
Here is our next problem. It’s not easy to buy food and beverages along the Hexenstieg trail specially at the east side of the Harz Mountains. A detour to Altenau, Schierke and Elbingerode is necessary!
